Eagle Mount Provides therapeutic and recreational activities for children and adults with physical, mental or behavioral challenges, striving to improve the quality of life for them and their families
Our Equestrian Program runs June - October. The Eagle Mount riding center is a Premier Accredited Center through NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). Our center runs its activities within the guidelines of this association. All staff and volunteers are also trained to adhere to the NARHA structure. Volunteers must be 14 years or older and will be provided with different levels of training. Each level of training Eagle Mount provides has specific duties and responsibilities which you will learn on your orientation day. There will be opportunities to "graduate" to upper volunteer levels throughout the year.
Volunteers in the program assist in many different aspects of keeping the program running and our participants in smiles. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and will be working with participants ages 4 and up. Some specific responsibilities are becoming a sidewalker, horse leading, assisting with tack and participant preparation, and assisting with horse, barn and arena care and horse exercising. The horse exercising program requires a crew of volunteers called the Schooling Team. Volunteers must pass a riding test and meet other requirements to be on the Schooling Team. Horse camps and other horsemanship programs are available to evaluate our participants for riding lessons or to give them an opportunity to learn about horses if they cannot ride. If you are not an avid horse person, there are many ways you can help! See our Participant page for more details on our equestrian program.
