Eagle Mount Provides therapeutic and recreational activities for children and adults with physical, mental or behavioral challenges, striving to improve the quality of life for them and their families
In 1990 a small group of individuals with a vision convened. Their vision included an organization that provided the opportunity for individuals with disabilities to actively do the same recreational activities that everyone else has the opportunity to enjoy. At that time, and today, there were no other organizations in the Great Falls area that provided quality therapeutic recreational activities for any individual with a physical, mental or emotional disability. From that small group’s vision, Eagle Mount was born in Great Falls.
From its modest beginnings, Eagle Mount has grown substantially. In the first year, a few volunteers and two full-time paid staff members served twelve swimmers and four alpine skiers.
As of today Eagle Mount's programs consist of Horsemanship, Children's Programs (Kids camp, Tippy Toes, Gymnastics); Sports Programs (Alpine Skiing, Karate, Bowling); Outdoor Explorations (Pontoon, Rafting, Fishing, Gardening, Trail Blazing); Fun Day Activities and Senior Programs. The Eagle Mount participants enthusiastically enjoy over 3500 hours of therapeutic recreation. Volunteers contributed approximately 3100 hours of their time toward the Eagle Mount mission. To support the participants and strive to carry out Eagle Mount’s mission, the staff has also grown in numbers and in knowledge. Our equestrian staff and volunteer instructors are all trained using NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped Association) guidelines/resources and the ski instructors are specially trained using PSIA (Professional Ski Instructors of America) resources allowing some of our volunteer to certify as ski instructors. The staff continues to strive in knowledge and experience to make the best programs for our participants!
Eagle Mount's new activity center, once all phases are completed will help us increase the number of activities we do in each of our programs!
